I have seen many petitions going around about this subject now. None of which I have fully agreed are the best way forward. So I have decided to start one myself.
After the very strong response from the government in regards to the “Make the production, sale and use of cannabis legal” petition, which I find completely ignorant, outdated and uneducated. I want to get my point across and our voices heard.
What this petition stands for-
- Whole plant cannabis for medical use.
- Available to ALL children and adults with a medical condition or ailment who could benefit from this treatment.
My name is Mairi and I have a 5 year old little girl called Sophie. Sophie has a severe epilepsy syndrome which causes her to have up to or over 100 seizures a day. At the age of 5 she has been through the mill and tried it all. All pharmaceuticals, diets, had a VNS device fitted and gone through brain surgery twice. We ran out of options quite a while ago now. I have been in discussions with her neurologist about Cannabidiol (CBD) for way over 2 years and we have still gotten nowhere. I have been told that this is Sophie’s best shot, yet I cannot get access to it.
Frankly, in this country, the UK, one of the most developed countries in the World, I find that an absolute disgrace.
The UK government can no longer bury their heads in the sand and state that there is no medicinal or healing values in Cannabis. The evidence from other countries is everywhere and can no longer be ignored.
Medical conditions that Cannabis can help, prevent or cure includes but is not limited to-
Epilepsy, M.S, Autism, Mental health issues, Cancer, Lung Disease, Crohn’s, IBS, Alzheimer’s, Glaucoma, Pain, can help decrease the side effects of Chemotherapy and many more…
People in the UK are being left to needlessly suffer.
I know children who have died waiting for this treatment to become available to them. I know people who have struggled through aggressive Chemotherapy, whose side effects could have been lessened.
Everyone has been through the heartache that comes with the conditions above, this effects everyone in this country!
Cannabis has the ability to save lives. It is a natural plant. It is safer than most pharmaceuticals that have been licensed in this country for both adults and children. These same pharmaceuticals have killed more people than Cannabis ever has.
This country has fallen way behind on this. There are desperate people and parents, like myself, who NEED this chance to save their child, to improve their quality of life, to see them smile again.
This policy needs to change, NOW!
Why Whole Plant?
It has now been widely researched and reported in other countries that CBD only products, do not have the most success. Using the whole plant and all of the components, means that they all work together to have far greater results. This, however, does include THC. THC is the psychoactive part of Cannabis. However, CBD, counteracts the effect of THC, meaning that you have the healing powers without the high. This whole process is called the “Entourage Effect”.
Some conditions, people and ailments need different levels of THC. Some conditions require small amount. However this is trial and error. Conditions like pain, fibromyalgia and more, require higher doses.
